No rehearsals through April 24
March 9 @ 8:00 am - April 24 @ 6:30 pm
The following message was sent to families from our Artistic Director, Jacob Winkler, Sunday evening March 8th:
Hello Seattle Girls Choir families,
As Meaghan indicated last week, the SGC Board of Directors met last Tuesday and decided that we would follow the lead of the Seattle Public Schools. However, since that meeting almost all the reading I have done leads me the difficult conclusion that the responsible thing for us to do is not to wait for SPS, but to be proactive about what we can do to slow the spread of the coronavirus in our community.
COVID-19, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, seems to have low risk for children, so I am not overly concerned with our own members getting sick. However, many of the articles I’ve read over the weekend emphasize the importance of slowing the disease, and especially the importance of doing it earlier rather than later. Just this morning, Governor Inslee said on “Face the Nation” that he was considering “mandatory measures,” and without giving specifics hinted that “social activities” might be curtailed. Like us, many other community arts organizations are making the difficult decision to postpone concerts, fundraisers, and rehearsals.
In light of this, Seattle Girls Choir will suspend its rehearsals for the next two weeks (starting again March 23), at which time we will re-assess the progress of the virus and its impact on our programs. Many of our choirs have upcoming concerts and recitals: We will need to push those back as well, and we will send out details as we have them.
The SGC choir directors will be working on materials so that our choristers can continue to be productive in practicing at home, which we will try to get out as soon as possible.
Be safe and be healthy, everyone. Thank you all for understanding,
