I walked in the doors of Volunteer Park Seventh-day Adventist Church for the first time in September 2023. I had no idea what to expect at the first rehearsal. Little did I know this would be one of the most valuable and memorable experiences of my life.

At the very first practice, I learned that SGC used the solfege system to learn music. Solfege was something that I had not used since elementary school (and a little bit during my freshmen year). I took the time to relearn how solfege worked and how to apply it to the learning process. And eventually, I felt confident in my skills.

Throughout this year I improved and grew so much, and that is majorly due in part to the amazing people I had surrounding me. Everyone was incredibly supportive and understanding and I could not ask for a more encouraging and welcoming community.

As I leave for college and continue my music journey, these late Wednesday evening practices will forever be a fond memory I take with me. Even though I only joined SGC this year, it feels like forever. I made so many new connections and strengthened my music knowledge a lot. I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to be a part of this incredible program.
